Analysis :
26 Acres of neglected, parched, and contaminated earth.
Once a source for much of the region's concrete industry,
this landscape is now left desolate and stripped of its
previous integrity. From complex strata of multicellular
life and vibrant diversity, to a barren, rusty mess.
Seeds from the lush forests of the area can't germinate
when they fall, but instead speak their frustration by
stacking themselves along meandering runnels and oily
volunteer pools left from tire tracks and shovel scoops.
Program :
This reclaimed brownfield project breathes new life into
an abandoned gravel quarry. Once pock marked with pits
and piles of neglect and abuse, this park now serves its
region as a green cemetery.
Surface runoff and pedestrian traffic are integrated to
connect our movement with that of the stormwater which
falls on site. The experience is a narrative journey, up to
the memorial space, or down to the reflection pool, the
purpose is the moment.
